One to Avoid

They are determined to shit on our culture and history.

Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa has been cast in a new play as Elizabethan playwright Christopher Marlowe, the Royal Shakespeare Company has announced.

Born With Teeth will explore the relationship between a 27-year-old Marlowe and rising star William Shakespeare, as they are forced to work together on a new piece of work.

Gatwa said he was “so excited” to be appearing in the play, which he said was “like no version of Shakespeare and Marlowe that I’ve ever seen before”.

Of course it’s not. That’s the point. Trashing our heritage.

Born With Teeth, written Liz Duffy Adams, will take an “irreverent” look at the “high-octane world of two of the theatre’s greatest literary icons”, the RSC said.

Neither of whom was black.

As I say, one to avoid like the plague.

  1. Well if Marlowe is a sub-saharan primitive and Shakespeare is white there’s only one possible arc it can have. I suppose we will discover that Marlowe actually wrote Shakespeare.

Marlowe was stabbed, which presumably will be by a white working class teenager corrupted by “naughty parchments” and the patriachal white church. Perhaps in a dispute of his play “the jew of gaza”?

I’m sure sodomy will be a theme as well.

Dr who gives a fuck has been destroyed, so I suppose the spiteful provision of a bolt hole for the destroyer in chief is only to be expected.

  2. A question that I always ask is just why? In earlier times characters of dark or East Asian appearance were often played by a white actor wearing makeup. The same type of people who deemed that unacceptable are the same ones who have black actors playing white historical characters. If the goal is to piss off people that they don’t like, I think that they misjudge how much said people care. The actual answer is not in the slightest. People will just ignore this stuff and not go to see it.

    • The ‘why’ is definitely spite. They know it’s massive hypocrisy, but they hate us so much that they can’t help themselves. But, yeah, these things tank, and it’s all down to waaycism.

      • I expect most people ignore luvvies grandstanding to other luvvies. I know I do. But it is noteworthy how desperate such grandstanding has become.

I support the ending of the Arts Councils – this will save money and allow true creativity to find a level of its own.
