I see that the right dishonourable saint Tone of Blair is under fire for praying for guidance before committing British troops to war. Indeed, he believes that God will judge him.
Um… Well, as an atheist, I’m disturbed by the PM’s overt religiousness. I don’t have a problem with him being religious, it’s that he is inferring that it is influencing government decision making that I find so bothersome. The other part of me is repulsed by the craven behaviour of the man, the sanctimonious hijacking of God to justify his decisions. There are other christians who do not see this as God’s work.
Perhaps, having run out of legitimate reasons and having been exposed as a liar over the weapons of mass destruction, he is now reverting to the “God told me it was okay” argument.
Can I then presume that he is taking Jeremiah 51 to heart and smiting Babylon…?
Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.
Update: I see Justin has words on the matter, too…
