Phew! I’ve almost finished restoring March and February. There are still a couple of posts and some comments to put back up.
Lessons learned: The SQL backup is all very well but when restored does some very strange things indeed. Mrs Longrider thinks this is to do with virtual paths. The paths look okay, but are now in a different place in the database. Sounds logical. The upshot was that when restored, everything worked okay until I tried to post anything, then all I could get was the main page – everything else gave a 404 error.
So, I restored manually those posts I had on my hard drive. The others I recovered via a Google search and pasted them back in. The Blog-City archives, I’ll restore slow time as before. As I sort them out, I’ll restore the odd few from March still outstanding – by my reckoning, I got away with only losing two posts overall and about three or four comments. So, I got off lightly.
What went wrong? Ah, now thereby hangs a tale. wBloggar was playing up, so I experimented with Qumana to see if that worked any better. Unfortunately, the Bad Behaviour plugin designed to stop SPAM spiders and robots locked me out when I tried to use it. So, there’s a clash there. From then on in, it was fuck-up all the way.
Thank goodness for Google. 😉
It’s just good to see you back up and running
