I upgraded to WordPress 3.1 the other day. I then noticed that the Admin Bar was switched on by default. If you use WordPress.com, then you will be familiar with it. What is annoying is that there is no simple “off” option. Sure you can play about with the code in functions.php if you want to. However, while I was looking to get rid of this annoyance, I discovered a simple plugin that does the trick for you. Given that not everyone wants the Admin bar and not everyone wants to fiddle with php, I would have thought making it optional would have been a simple matter rather than make us find ways of switching it off.

LR. You can turn it off in the user profile settings. No need for an additional plugin.

Damn! Thanks for that. That was the last place I’d have thought of looking and boy, did I look.
I have WP whatever comes before 3.1 . What’s an admin bar? Do you mean the column down the left and why would you wish to switch it off?
It’s a rather annoying and unnecessary bar that appears at the top of the blog screen.
but only the admin can see it and its handy for editing posts, so whats the annoyance?
It’s like all those other annoying toolbars that try to steal screen real estate, it takes up space without offering anything that cannot be achieved by other means.
As I don’t create or edit posts using the WordPress editor, it offers me nothing.
