Only contemplation of God allows us to shed selfish habits and attain the strength and clear sight we need for justice.
Once again, we have the ArseBishop wibbling waffle. I am perfectly capable of being selfless and I am equally clear about justice – i.e. that there’s precious little of it in our modern politically correct world. I have no need for a belief in a deity to achieve that. Something the first couple of comments below the line point out.
Religion and a belief in gods is not necessary for good deeds, justice or love for one’s fellow man. Basic compassion comes without the supernatural baggage. If Williams and his flock want to believe, fine, believe all you want to. Do not, however, assume that such things as justice, love and morality are unique to you and your belief, or that the latter is necessary for the former that’s all.
“Religion and a belief in gods is not necessary for good deeds”. Often the complete opposite. Religious belief provides support for some very evil deeds indeed.
It is part of the blackmail that underlies all religion.
