‘Cos, like, yeah, it’ll stop terrorism or some such bollocks, according to idiotic Angela Epstein. Every bogus argument that ID cards enthusiasts put forward has been discredited. It will solve nothing – apart from make every little jobsworth demand to “see ID” even more than they already do. Usually, we get the old “nothing to hide nothing to fear” canard being wheeled out eventually. Epstein saves us the bother of reading any further than her opening sentence:
I don’t know about you, but I’ve nothing much to hide.
At this point, we know she is a brain-dead moron and have no need to bother with any “argument” she might put forward. Fucking idiot.
I will never, ever, under any circumstances, comply with any attempt to make me apply for or carry an identity card, and Epstein can put that where the sun doesn’t shine.
So – what’s a photo driving licence then?
I have neither a driving licence nor a passport. Am I an unperson?
Well…
On a more serious note, if it wasn’t for the insane and paranoid money laundering laws and demanding that everyone under 25 be checked for absurd reasons, then having to present things like driving licences wouldn’t be necessary anyway. It is a classic example of a government creating a problem to solve.
It’s not as though the terrorists use the mainstream banks anyway. Despite what you see on TV.
What the money laundering laws mean to me is having to do simple things the hard way, just to manage my own money.
Precisely. The rules are absurd.
A licence to drive on the public highway.
That nothing to hide nothing to fear thing is like saying that you don’t care about free speech because you have nothing to say.
As Glenn Greenwald has said, if you’ve got nothing to hide and nothing to fear, then post up all your email addresses, bank account details and passwords online for everyone to see.
After all, you’ve got nothing to hide and nothing to fear !
