Unsavoury

Apparently I hold unsavoury views.

Labour MP Ben Bradshaw said he supports Exeter Cathedral’s decision to ban Carl Benjamin, adding the Ukip candidate has “unsavoury views” with “unsavoury followers” and said some “unsavoury things”.

Right. Got it. So believing in free speech, which clearly Mr. Bradshaw does not, makes me unsavoury.

Okay, so the comments regarding rape weren’t very nice. They were not rape threats, no matter how much the media tries to spin it. But even if you are foolish enough to believe the media smears, allowing unsavoury speech to be aired is a good thing because the ideas can be challenged out in the open. And, unlike the political class, Benjamin is happy to be challenged, hence his recent trips where he has been having discussions with anyone who fancies it.

Carl Benjamin is a genuine Liberal. He is passionate about civil liberties. This, apparently, makes him unsavoury. Those of us who, like him, believe in these basic liberties are also unsavoury, it would seem.

I happen to feel that the rape comments haven’t helped Benjamin’s cause, despite feeling that he is right in refusing to apologise. They are an open goal and a distraction that has hindered rather than helped his cause. Far too many voters will be unaware of his background and will simply believe what they are told – hence the physical assaults by the hard of thinking.

But, let’s be clear here: he is not a Nazi, he is not far right and he has not threatened to rape anyone. Oh, and the media are a nasty bunch of dirty, dirty smear merchants. Likewise is Ben Bradshaw.

  1. Okay, so the comments regarding rape weren’t very nice

Why? Not even I would touch that, and I’ve screwed some dogs in my time. They weren’t ‘rape comments’, he said he

      wouldn’t

rape her/it, which is simply telling the truth. Probably damaged her ego more than anything.

What else could you expect from a Labour MP? If the cathedral has banned him because of the ‘rape comment’ (note ‘comment’ without the ‘s’), then they must support rape – Bradshaw too. When is someone going to turn this around on these people?

    • My point being that it gave them a weapon. A weapon that could have been avoided. As for it being unpleasant, insults are alway unpleasant. That’s their raison d’etre after all.

  2. Ah, these would be the “unsavoury views” Bradshaw will use to lobby for more ‘hate speech’ legislation. The point will come when the public is so forbidden to speak their only recourse will be to something that will make Mr Bradshaw’s life, and the lives of those like him, full of interest.

    • I love a good euphemism.Reminds me of the old Chinese curse…..” may you live in interesting times “.

  3. The problem with Carl Benjamin and Tommy Robinson is that they may have their morals and beliefs but the average voter is as thick as dehydrated pig shit and only gets their news from the media. They may be right in making a point and what they say may not be illegal but in doing so have shot themselves in the foot and their words are twisted so they are, imo, unelectable. I’d like to vote for Tommy just to stick it up them but it would be a wasted vote. So it’s the Brexit party for me.

    • The “average voter is as thick as dehydrated pig shit”?

You sound more like an arrogant remainer voter who thinks the votes of the “intellectually superior” should count more than those of the “intellectually inferior”.

      • I dunno… The tendency for milkshake throwing followed by thousands of likes on twatter and farcebook suggests that plenty of voters have bought the “far right” narrative, which is worrying to say the least. It does suggest a lack of genuine inquisitiveness and critical thinking. I just hope that a bloodletting at the polls lifts my pessimism.

  4. And yet these self-same lefties venerate so-called comedians like Frankie Boyle who, despite being about as amusing as a case of rabies at Battersea Dogs’ Home, have made a lucrative career from being deliberately offensive. Obviously it’s good when the left does it but bad when anyone of a different viewpoint does it. Interesting how red-coloured glasses change things entirely.
