According to Business Week the US authorities are moving closer to having RFID equipped passports that can be read remotely. Privacy advocates are appalled. As well they might be. So am I. The same tired argument is being used…it will make America safer from terrorists. Will it bollocks! Terrorists will move around undetected on their own or a forged identity untroubled by such measures until they commit their atrocities.
This is nothing more than big government using the power of nightmares to bring about sufficient fear in the general public to enable them to impose powerful restrictive measures that serve their interests not ours. I’m waiting to see how long it is before Big Blunkett proposes the same for his dreadful little ID cards.
