The Devil’s Kitchen notes (via Harry’s Place) that the Arab European League is now publishing anti-European cartoons designed to cross the taboos they believe will cause maximum offence to Europeans. In doing so, they demonstrate that they just don’t get it. But, then, that’s no surprise. If they did, there wouldn’t have been a furore in the first place.
Um…. I used the word “childish” during my comments on this silliness earlier. Well, I guess my point has been proved – we have now hit playground level with a bump. The cartoons in question are typically anti-semitic and anti-gay.
Yawn. Like we’ve not seen that before…
And, just so that there is no suggestion of hypocrisy; I absolutely support their right to produce and publish these cartoons as I absolutely support the right of Jyllans-Poste to publish the original cartoons. Freedom of speech is an absolute; absolutely.
Will there be protests on the streets or embassy and flag burnings as a consequence of these “offensive” cartoons? Do me a favour.
In the immortal words of Monty Python; “This is getting very silly. Stop it now.”
Being gay I guess I was supposed to be offended by the animal marriage one, since it was ridiculing gay marriage, but it was actually the only one that I found amusing. I really must work on improving my level of extreme righteous indignation.
”’Longrider replies: I found it mildly amusing as well. The rest were just crude and unfunny.”’
