ID Cards Bill Trounced in the Lords

Not only has the ID Cards Bill been soundly thrashed in the Lords again:

Government plans to make all passport applicants also have an ID card have been defeated in the Lords.

But the majority has increased. This is excellent news for liberty. Unfortunately, expect to see yet more calls from the totalitarian ZANU Labour front benches for curbs on the second chamber’s abilities to protect our democracy from the vandals who would destroy it and replace it with the machinery of a police state.

I just loved the remark form Lord Phillips of Sudbury:

He said the description of ID card plans as voluntary “stretches the English language to breaking point”.

Clearly not someone who has been genning up on the New(speak) Labour dictionary. 😉
