Speaking on the Radio 4 Today programme, Jack Straw said that peerages are not for sale under the Labour government:
“You can’t buy a peerage. Donating large sums of money to a good cause cannot be a reason for giving somebody a peerage, nor can it be a reason for disqualifying them.”
There you go – from the horse’s mouth as it were.
Waddya mean you don’t believe a word of it? There’s far too much cynicism about these days.
And don’t you just love his description of the Labour party as a “good cause”? FFS!
Hm. Lord Longrider of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. Has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?
There you go you see. If you hadn’t irresponsibly wasted all that money on keeping a roof over your head then you could be halfway to being Lord Longrider by now.
And it’s time that Trading Standards made the Labour Party change their name, as they’re trading on the goodwill of a previous organization that used to represent working people. I suggest something like the “Unaccountable Elite” party would be a more appropriate name, with headquarters in Lichtenstein.

Donated to any “good causes” lately Robert?
If peerages are not for sale I am Robert Mugabe.
