The question is, do Christmas light exhibitionists deserve this? Are these spectacles really just another piece of ‘tacky,’ seemingly America-caused over-indulgence, or just ‘festive fun’ that need not be criticised by Waitrose shoppers and House of Fraser fans?
I shop at neither House of Fraser nor Waitrose, but house blinging is most certainly tacky. Of course, if people want to do it, it’s their electricity bill…
Interestingly, the author of the piece indulges in his own prejudices by labelling those who find the practice tacky as “Waitrose shoppers and House of Fraser fans.” Interesting…
Tacky or not, there seems to have been a dramatic reduction in the number and size of such displays this year. Clearly energy prices (or possibly green scaremongering?) have taken their toll.
