So, there I was doing some work for Network Rail. Like other large organisations they put up all sorts of employee welfare stuff on their noticeboards. Anyway, this one was about backs. Don’t talk to me about backs, I’ve got one of those…
So it had the usual stuff about avoiding back pain. All pretty straightforward really. No surprises – you know, limber up before doing any strenuous work, be careful about being too sedentary or overdoing the manual lifting and so on. Then, right at the bottom…
Smoking.
Apparently, smoking will reduce the nutrients that get to the discs. Bet you never knew smoking was bad for your back, did you? That’s probably why Leggy is always complaining about having to get up off his…

HONEST! 😈
As to the back, they tried that one on in the REHA course I was sent on last year.
Must be a European directive.
