Here We Go Again

Online anonymity is under attack.

The Labour MP Jess Phillips was bombarded with more than 600 rape threats in a single night, she has revealed, as she called for online trolls to no longer be allowed anonymity.

Okay, so I’ve not had rape threats, but I have been subjected to trolling. It isn’t pleasant. But it’s just words. Actual threats of violence are not protected by free speech, so Ms Phillips needs to report them to the police who will be able to track the perpetrators and do the necessary. Problem solved. What is not needed is an end to online anonymity – for if that goes, people will start to censor themselves, because unpopular opinions lead to censure. With anonymity, people can speak freely and challenge the orthodoxy.

She has concluded from her experience that parliament needs to force people to make their identities available to the likes of Facebook and Twitter – even if they are still able to remain anonymous to the general public.

Yes and who runs those organisations? People who think championing free speech is “far right”*. People who will shut down accounts that are deemed “far right”. Yes, I’ll trust those bastards with my details …

She said that, to her, it was “water off a duck’s back” because she does not consider herself or her children to be in physical danger. “However, where it does worry me, and I think we have to do something about, is when it affects our democracy.

If it doesn’t bother her, then there’s not a problem. Issuing threats of violence is, as already stated illegal, so can be dealt with as the law currently stands., It has fuck all to do with *democracy. What is a threat to democracy is politicians trying to control what we are allowed to say – and forcing us to reveal ourselves is likely to do just that.

“I don’t think people should be allowed to be completely anonymous online any more. I don’t mind if people appear anonymous online for all sorts of really reasonable reasons.”

What?!?

Jess Phillips’ unfortunate experience is not a justification for removing online anonymity – just as Elton John’s cry for the same bullshit should be robustly resisted.

“People say, ‘What about my freedom of speech?’, sod your freedom of speech.

Fuck off, Elton. You and the horse you rode into town on. Our freedom of speech is a damned sight more important than your delicate feelings. Ultimately this is about policing our opinions. Nothing more, nothing less.

*Meaning “disagrees with me”.

*Democracy – if it is the left saying something, it’s democracy (good speak). If it is not the left saying it, it’s populism (bad speak).

  1. They hate freedom of speech – especially when that freedom points out how the SS, er sorry, social services, the Police and the Government have been turning a blind eye o Muslim rape gangs for 30 years.

    Angry, you f*cking betcha

  2. Jess Phillips? She should be flattered. Mind you if she has had 2 kids someone must have……..nope, how anyone could find her attractive is beyond my comprehension…………. had intercourse with her. There must be an awful lot of mal adjusted people out there to suggest rape. Mysogenic? Yes but then I find every time she opens her mouth a waste of my time.

    • +1

She’s a lard bucket. Fat at top, even fatter lower down – thighs are ginormous. Another sanctimonious MP who lectures us on obesity, smoking et al

Did I mention she, like Lady Nugee, is obese, smokes and heavy drinker?

  3. I seem to recall Jess Phillips and Philip Davies the MP being interviewed when he had called for an International Men’s Day, like the female equivalent, pointing out the alarming rise in male suicide. Ms Philips thought it all rather amusing. Nasty piece of work. I rather doubt her claims too, to put it mildly.

  4. 600 rape threats? Credible ones? I’ll believe maybe two. One from someone whose guide dog had gone AWOL. The other one who was simply trolling.

  5. Another attention seeking idiot who is of such poor parliamentary quality that she couldn’t even get herself on Damian Collins’ joke committee. So left with nothing it’s off to Twitter…

  6. Free Speech is already punishable by execution

Tommy Robinson is moved to Muslim prison

Last night the Muslims were banging on his wall and chanting for his death. Now you tell me if that is humane, if that is right? For any human being – doesn’t even matter if it were Tony Blair – he still has a right not to be subjected to that.

This is, frankly, cruel and unusual – this is North Korea, Turkey, Thailand, not a supposedly civilised nation. Everyone and his dog knows what is about to happen and to the idiots who say he had it coming – why? Why did he? Everyone knows this is zero to do with contempt and all to do with the rallies.

And what were the rallies about?

    1. Stop Muslim rape of children;
    2. Free speech.

This is a repulsive vindictive action by HMP, no doubt due to pressure from Gov’t & Judges.

Fingers crossed he manages, as before, to be put in solitary before he’s murdered.

May, Javid et al disgust me. They’re weak, but use their power of office to bully and intimidate.

Will any eyes open or any ears be unblocked?

    • Tommy, Soubry, Flint…

      – Anna Soubry trying to imply Labour’s Caroline Flint is some kind of bigot for wanting immigration control. Just appalling.

      – Why is Caroline Flint important? I’ll tell you why. Because, despite campaigning for Remain at the EU Referendum, she is trying to represent the views of the majority of her Don Valley constituents and, more importantly, the majority of the views of the British electorate.

      – I am told the decision to move Tommy Robinson from a relatively safe prison to a highly unsafe one came from the @ukhomeoffice — which means people need to be asking questions of @sajidjavid, Britain’s new Home Secretary
