Okay, okay, so before you yawn and move on….this has ramifications for those of us who live in the EU.
Our glorious leader it seems, has set a date for March 2004 for a referendum on the new EU constitution. So what will you vote? Yes, or No? I’ve always considered myself a Europhile. My wife and I own a house in France, we enjoy the European lifestyle – not least the right of residence in any EU country. Frankly, the "Little Englander" mentality grates. But – and here’s the rub – I haven’t a clue what the ramifications of accepting the constituion are going to be. Is the EU becoming a large unaccountable bureaucracy that will engulf our ability to govern ourselves; or is it a benign organisation that will protect us from our national governments’ excesses?
