My BMW R1150RT is an excellent machine. Rarely has it caused me any problems. However, on getting it out today to nip into town for a local errand, I notice that I stalled it a few times manoeuvring it out of the garage. The clutch was dragging badly. A quick spin confirmed it. Smoke pouring out of the fairing along with some ominous drips lead me to the conclusion that the hydraulics have sprung a leak.
I phoned my dealer and he said, yup, the joint at the slave cylinder is prone to go on these bikes. Simple job. Yeah, it would be if I could ride without a clutch along the busy traffic ridden Bath Road. Just as well I have a recovery arrangement with BMW rescue…
I await their arrival at this very moment.
Update: it’s the washers on the slave cylinder. They’ve rotted away. So, tomorrow, new washers and the bike is back on its feet again.
