I don’t have that much to add to what others have said about the outing of NightJack by a scumbag Times reporter.
While Justice Eady’s ruling upheld the letter of the law, the outing was typical of the kind of despicable lack of morals I have come to expect from our media. Indeed, I tend to regard journalists with the same level of absolute contempt that I reserve for politicians. Journalists, are after all, the dung beetles who thrive on the turds dropped by politicians, so it is hardly surprising that their symbiotic relationship is typified by a joint lack of intellectual and moral rigour.
I have mentioned it before, but will say it again, in every report referring to my own field of expertise, I am reminded of just how little journalists know when pontificating. When I see reports riddled with factual errors that others will not know about because they are not experts in my field, I realise that where I am not an expert, it is likely that the journalist is similarly erroneous. I do not trust newspapers or television to report accurately, truthfully or fairly, just as I do not trust a politician to speak accurately, truthfully or fairly. Given that, I will place more trust in a blogger speaking from a position of expertise.
There was no public interest in this little piece of spite – merely a loathesome little journalist destroying a man’s career for no other reason than that he can. The Times is not an organ to be trusted if you have any valuable and sensitive information, yet must remain anonymous. If Rupert Murdoch thinks that this in any way will encourage me to pay for the drivel, bile, spite, half-truths and downright lies spewing from the keyboards of his sycophantic drones, then he is very much mistaken.
Interestingly enough, NightJack is not the only blogger who has suffered at the hands of The Times recently.
The Rev. Ian Watson writes about his treatment at the hands of The Times at http://kirkmuirhillrev.wordpress.com/2009/06/09/the-nuremburg-defence/
One may or may not agree with Mr. Watson’s point of view, but the attitude of the journalist from The Times (Mike Wade) was pretty unimpressive.
My opinion of The Times continues to fall.
What a storm in a teacup! Publish and be damned. It’s all a load of piffle, anyway. And ‘Gay Christians’ clamouring to be accepted by these bigots remind me of Groucho Marx’s query:”Who would want to belong to a club that accepted me as a member?”
Scarcely have I seen the blogosphere so at one on an issue. Scumbag is the right word. How can he be boycotted?
