Misused Word of the Day

“Progressive”.

It seems to mean different things to different people these days. However, to see it used to justify the brutal mistreatment of women in the name of decency is something again.

Now, guess where? Oh, yeah… the groan. Why does this not surprise me? The article is written by a Muslim woman facing trial for “an indecent act” in the Sudan. She – along with others – was wearing trousers and the brutal, cowardly, misogynist bastards who run and police the country hate women and will use any excuse to put them before a kangaroo court, find them guilty and then beat them – doubtless gaining some gratification in the process. Lovely. In response to the author’s stand against such repressive laws by allowing herself to be tried – and if necessary face the punishment meted out – we get a comment from an imbecile calling themselves Pulman. Lubna Hussein is seeking to draw attention to the plight faced by women in the Sudan and most people comment favourably on her courage in so doing. However, you always get the idiot factor and Pulman hits all the buttons, not least in claiming that his objection is “progressive”:

No surprise to see the first responses are typical Western Imperial arrogance.
This women knew the laws of the land so she only has herself to blame. We progressives should stand together in rejecting Islamophobic articles like this. Would the author rather young girls in Sudan were wandering around barely dressed like the “liberated” women in the West?
As Daily Mail readers are so fond of saying: if you don’t want to do the time, don’t do the crime.

There you have it, objecting to brutal, medieval regimes that treat half the population as second class citizens is “Western Imperial arrogance” and a Muslim woman writing about her stand against such repression is now “Islamophobic”. While on the other hand, supporting this quasi-religious brutality is “progressive” Well, I never knew that.

Funnily enough, it makes me think of Germaine Greer. Wonder why? Rosa Parks will be spinning in her grave.

I honestly belief that these bloodthirsty thugs relish doing these things.

  2. Oh, almost certainly, James!

The whole point behind the misuse of the Recitation given to the Prophet is to give some men power over others. This in itself proves it is no longer God’s word or law, as He doesn’t work that way, having created us all of equal inherent status.

What is going on there and in so many other places in the world is a cruel dictatorship of pure evil, dressed up in a form that allows control over the masses.

It should not be confused with the Word of God, which of course such people aim to marginalise and destroy (see The Third Jihad and other works in the same vein).

^Which is another reminder that “progressives” are barrelling back into full-scale conservative puritanism after their little 20th century dalliance with liberation. There is little in repressive religious laws such as sharia they would actually disagree with, in truth. The good news, such as it is, is that they are gradually distancing themselves ever further from the general opinions of most ordinary people and thus isolating themselves further, gradually opening the door to a genuinely liberal philosophy gaining mass support. Progressivism began in religious puritanism, and is just coming home.

  4. The term “progressive” is typical Lefty misdirection, as the Left is essentially regressive, as their policies, history and current implementations around the world all clearly demonstrate.
