Ratcliffe on Soar Protests

I see that the crustys have been making a nuisance of themselves at Ratcliffe on Soar this past couple of days.

A police officer has been airlifted to hospital after being hurt during violent scuffles with activists at Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station in Nottinghamshire.

Witnesses said one protester was also treated by ambulance crews at the site following a volatile stand-off with authorities.

A total of 21 people have been arrested after sections of the fence surrounding the station were torn down by protesters.

Now, I have absolutely no issue over these people protesting – indeed, I would support their right to do so, even if I vigorously object to the reason for their protest. However, tearing down fences is crossing a line here. This is vandalism, which is quite rightly a criminal offence. Also, invading private property with the intention of closing down operations is aggravated trespass and needs to be met with sufficient force to prevent them achieving their objective. They have every right to protest, they have no right whatsoever to interfere with the operation of the power station.

What, then is their objective?

About 1,000 protesters are understood to have gathered at the site. Groups including Camp for Climate Action are demanding that coal-fired stations be decommissioned in favour of more environmentally friendly options.

Those being? And, please, don’t insult my intelligence by suggesting wind farms… Of course, the UK could have done as the French did and opt for nuclear. As it is, there are problems stacking up in the not too distant future. As it is, these arseholes are determined to impose a medieval lifestyle on us all. Well, no thanks very much. The more they behave in this manner, the more my opposition to them and their creed hardens. Oh, and to the fuckwit interviewed by the BBC this afternoon who likened this bunch to the suffragettes, pull the other one. This is not civil disobedience, this is criminal behaviour and most reasonable people will see it as such. That said, E.On should pursue damages in the civil courts, a much more effective response, I think. Let’s see you pay for the damage you have caused.

The moral? politicians really, really shouldn’t make policy based on the say-so of a bunch of delusional crustys.

  1. I would go for the nuclear option, were it not for the unresolved problem of toxic waste disposal.

And these are not the only arseholes determined to impose a medieval lifestyle on us all. There are also the Muslims…..
