On the Road

Blogging has been light. I was offered a day’s work in Swansea on Monday so I went –  regardless of the weather. The plan was to do the work, get back to Bristol for about five, rest then head for the ferry at about eleven. Ah, but, the best laid plans and all that. It snowed in Wales on Monday and there were problems on the way back. According to the satnav there were problems between Cardiff and Newport. The satnav routed me off the M4 and onto the A48 which was just as bad, made worse by the fact that the snow hadn’t been cleared. Long story short; it took five hours to do a two hour trip.

I still set out for Dover at eleven and made my way back to France. Paris was dreadful with stop start traffic, so it took me thirteen hours to get here from Calais. I feel like I’ve been living in the car for the past two days.

Why is it, though, that truckers seem to think that tailgating is a good driving trick? Why do the bastards think it okay to indicate and change lane even when someone is already there? It doesn’t seem to make any difference where you go, these two things are always the case.

Anyway, it’s packing between now and the New Year.

  1. My sympathies for having to drive on the M4 in S Wales at *any* time of year… let alone in the snow.

And the A48 was shut on Sunday…apparently for good reason.

  2. Standards of driving seem to be getting worse and worse everywhere – Paris (in particular, the Arc de Triomphe roundabout) was hair-raising when I was last there, which was a few years ago!

  3. The Arc looks fun Julia and is on my “to do” list. I did the Peripherique in the 90’s for a laugh and it was a bit scary at times on the bike.
Then I did it again a couple of years back in the car and was terrified. I just could not tell where the next missile (sorry, bike) was going to come from. Lunacy! And it’s like that ALL the time.
