Multi Author Blog Project

James has more over on his site about the new blog. The name is still an ongoing issue. Personally, I’m having difficulty making a final decision. It seems that everyone has an opinion and they are all different. Ah, well, sooner or later we will have to fix on something. The whole exercise has been like herding cats, which was the front runner. A Forlorn Hope is a working title for the moment –  although I have warmed to it, more even than Herding Cats.

James has asked me why I like “A Forlorn Hope” –  and why I see it as an optimistic name rather than a pessimistic one. I started putting together a short explanation:

A Forlorn Hope is that first group of soldiers who storm the walls of the enemy’s defences. The name reflects the high casualties they received. While most expected to die in the assault, it was hoped that enough would survive to gain a foothold for the following wave of the attack. Frequently they were volunteers led by a junior officer seeking advancement, which was pretty much a guarantee in the event of survival.

That’s why 😉

The first few posts are up while we play with things like layout. The name is still a bit fluid at the moment.

  1. I didn’t know that either [note to self: Google before suggesting]

In which case I’m wavering between Gates of Mordor and the other.

However I may be being pedantic, historically inaccurate (watching too much Sharpe) or putting my feelings in play. But I always thought it was
The Forlorn Hope’ not just the ‘forlorn hope’

To me the former embodies the sentiments echoed in your description, a band gathered together to storm the breech, the latter merely a depressive sentiment.

  2. ““”It seems that everyone has an opinion and they are all different””

Should be a damn good blog then.”

    Yes, this’ll be refreshing!

  3. I’ve left four comments on the new site, and they have all disappeared immediately. Is the comments section programmed to delete anything from ‘nisakiman’, or do you have spam filter issues?

  4. I don’t know what is going on. There are no comments from you in the Spam trap – nor are there any in the moderation queue.

Try making a couple of test comments and I’ll have another look.

Drop me an email when you’ve done it.
