Don’t These People Read?

I had another spammy email today from someone asking to guest post on my blog. These seem to be flavour of the month at the moment. If it isn’t asking me to host spammy links they now want to write their own puff piece with spammy links in them.

I gather that these people are offering $20 for a guest post. Fine if you want to do that sort of thing. However, my contact page specifically says that I don’t host any form of commercial activity –  adverts, links or, now, just to make it absolutely clear, commercial guest posts, so don’t bother asking –  the answer is “no” before you ask. It has always been “no”. Indeed, I ignore all forms of approach from anyone who asks me to do anything, frankly –  including downloading and installing your latest plugin. If I want it, I’ll look it up and download it. Nagging me by email won’t do it –  I hate being nagged. Anyway, regarding that $20 fee, if it’s true that every man has his price, mine’s a damned sight higher than $20.

It really couldn’t be more clear, so why, then, do they waste their time trying?

  1. Ha! $20! You’ll be a rich man! Might even cover 10% of your weekly supermarket shop! (Or maybe not).

  2. Why do spammers bother at all?? Do they really think I’m going to click on an email with attachments from some unpronounceable (and highly improbable) name that always seems to have an AOL address?

Sadly there must be enough idiots around who do to make it worth their while…

  3. Oh yes, I get the nags asking me why I haven’t responded to their wonderful offer. reading the statement on my comments page would answer that one.
