I guess the people at Charlie Hebdo’s knew what they were letting themselves in for when they announced that the Prophet Mohammed was guest editing. The people behind the firebombing explain themselves thus:
Charlie Hebdo’s website has also been hacked with a message in English and Turkish cursing the magazine.
The message said: “You keep abusing Islam’s almighty Prophet with disgusting and disgraceful cartoons using excuses of freedom of speech.”
“Be God’s curse upon you!”
Ah, Islam, the religion of peace, doncha just luvvit? Still, they do let us see for ourselves what it is we are up against; a nasty, intolerant, dogmatic and ultimately misanthropic ideology instigated by a murderous medieval warlord that has no place in modern society.
The correct response to such an attack is to pick oneself up and carry on. Raise two fingers to the culprits and be determined that freedom of speech will never be bullied into submission by these people.
The cover of this week’s issue, out on Wednesday, shows Mohammed saying: “100 lashes if you don’t die of laughter”.
It’s an old joke; a variation of ve hav vays of making you laff, but worth making – and repeating until the Islamists get the message; we do not abide by your medieval ideology and never will. Nor should we respect it, as there is nothing to respect, merely despise.
