I’ve been riding bikes long enough now not to be impressed when I see someone pulling a wheelie. However, the chap who did just that yesterday when leaving a roundabout on the outskirts of Souvigny caught my eye. Not only did he do it in traffic, but did so under the watchful eyes of the two Gendarmes lounging on their FJs right by the roundabout. Watching one then fire up his bike, and hurtle into the roundabout to give chase hampered by the slow moving traffic was a moment of pure entertainment – not least the concentration on his face.
There are two unanswered questions though. Was this rider so stupid and unaware, that he didn’t see the boys in blue, or did he see them and was taking the piss? We need to know. The other question that lingers is; did he get away?
Whatever, with chutzpah like that, I doff my cap to him. It brightened an otherwise tedious drive.
I’d like to think he did it on purpose and I do hope he got away with it.
Oh no, I’ll probably be reported to the (Froggy) police Clarkson style now for inciting reckless riding…
I’d love to have the guts to try and pull a wheelie on my FZ6! 😳
i think he didn’t see the boys….but he got away with it.
Barton in North Lincolnshire is either a large village or a small town. Locally one of its claims to fame is ‘Barton Bike Night’ an annual summer evening get together to celebrate all things to do with motorised two wheelers. As the event has grown over the years, the local plod has obviously taken quite an interest in it. Anyone attending, who has any sense, adheres to the speed limits religiously and generally rides as if he was taking his test / she was taking her test.
The police are everywhere, armed with radar guns, unmarked Volvos and Hyabusas but you still get people riding like idiots on plastic fantastics. My life’s experience says that stupidity is the most likely explanation.
That really depends on the two bikes – you didn’t catch that?
The marques I mean.
Both Yamahas – the Gendarmes use FJ1300s these days. Not too sure of the exact model of the civvy bike, though, it went past so quick. One of the sporty 600s I think.
