Eat Up Your Greens

Further to Mark Wadsworth’s generic scare story of the day in the comments over at OoL, we get this.

Britons are not eating enough fruit and vegetables despite nutritional advice being widely available, a study suggests.

These people just don’t let up. Not even twenty four hours have passed since they told us not to eat bacon and sausages and they are nagging us about how much fruit and veg we don’t eat based upon a study that suggests we don’t eat enough. As study that is so flawed that they cannot decide upon a common definition for fruit and veg from one country to another.

The report also acknowledges that the definition of fruit and vegetables varies between countries with, for example, some nations not including potatoes or fruit juice.

Yet another health story that we can take with a pinch of salt, then.

Baboom tish!

  1. I like the way ‘Britons’ are referred to as some kind of homogenous mass. I’m a Briton, I’m also a vegetarian. I grow vegatables in my garden and then eat them. Am I just a sort of wierd outlier, only representing such a tiny percentage of the population that I don’t need counting?

I think that the fact that we are bombarded with this crap every single day must surely mean that every one will start to ignore it. Even if there was any truth in it, why not just let Darwinism sort it out?

  2. This “5 a day” meme really irritates me. It’s total bollocks but what is so worrying is that grown men and women take it so seriously that if they don’t “get their 5” that somehow they are in mortal danger.

It’s saddening to see how suggestible and blind some have become.
