Goodbye to Bad Rubbish

The UK foreign secretary has paid tribute to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who he said left a “lasting impression” on his country.

Well, yes, I suppose he did that. I recall watching a programme where this monster was kicking small business owners out of their property for no more than actually having the temerity to hold private property. Nasty bullies will always have their supporters, especially those who play the populist card. The correct response to this egregious creature’s much overdue demise is “good riddance”.

William Hague said he was “saddened” to hear of his death.

Really? Well, let’s see who little Willie is lining up beside…

Respect MP George Galloway…

Sinn Fein’s Gerry Adams…

Mr [Ken] Livingstone…

I believe Oliver Stone and Sean Penn are also providing a posthumous arse licking for this man. I do hope Willie has a very, very long spoon.

  1. One of the stupid questions put out to the public today by BBC Radio 2’s moronic Jeremy Vine Show (Venessa Phelps sitting in) was “Would the UK benefit from having a Chavez style dictator in charge?”

  2. Would you have preferred a clone of Pinochet in charge instead, who would have privatised like mad, banned trades unions and kept the middle classes sweet by cutting taxes? Oh and also murdered tens of thousands of political opponents. The US certainly would have and it wouldn’t be calling one its dictators a “dictator” but a “strong man”.

I certainly don’t care for Chavez as he is far too populist for my tastes. But the hysteria of the condemnations against him are simply ridiculous. He was hardly a Pinochet or a Galtieri, neither of whom were condemned as “dictators” by the US.

    • False dichotomy. I am under no obligation to have a preference. I despise all of them. Equally, the hypocrisy of US foreign policy is of no relevance. The day Chavez died, the world became a better place. That is all.

True, you are under no obligation to make you comments remotely credible or rational. I am simply pointing out that Chavez was not a dictator by any conventional use of the word, such as having won three elections.

        • Ah, yes, he won elections. That does not mean that he was not a nasty dictator, which he was. I don’t have to remind you of other nasty dictators who won elections, surely?

And trying to twist my words won’t work here. I’ll simply point out your logical fallacies and throw them back at you. My remarks were perfectly credible and rational, they just don’t say what you would like them to have said. Tough titty. Get over it.

  3. Regarding the Jeremy Vine show, It is a daily ritual at work to switch channels as soon as the Ken Bruce show finishes, and return to Steve Wright at two. I only know about the Chavez question because Vanessa Phelps comes in at 11:30 to do a trailer. So I’m afraid I don’t know the answer to your implied question in comment 2 but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it was yes.
