  1. Press freedom in one of the true peoples’ republics is about to be lost. Freedom of expression is soon to be banned, for your own safety, of course. No sanctions on the peaceful them that do this, though. Why are we allowing ourselves to be invaded? RIP those martyrs. RIP humanity. Or?

  2. No doubt in a few days the usual suspects will cynically exploit the Charlie Hebdo attacks to demand further secret police powers of surveillance to be used against law-abiding citizens. Perhaps if the security services weren’t wasting hundreds of millions snooping on all of us then they might, just might, have the resources to mount effective surveillance against actual terrorists.

No doubt some will say that the UK’s Stasi has no interest in monitoring law-abiding people involved in lawful and peaceful political activities. However the acts of the security services belie that naive claim. GCHQ has been busily raiding the Yahoo accounts of millions of honest law-abiding people. So it is very clear that these people do very much have us in their sights.

It’s an ill atrocity indeed that does not blow well for a secret policeman wanting more powers. Reichstag fire, anyone?
