Ha!

So this Frank Lampard chappie got off on a technicality.

A road safety campaigner who caught Frank Lampard driving with a phone in one hand and a coffee in the other has raged ‘justice is broken’ after the authorities said there was not enough evidence to prosecute him.

Vigilante cyclist Mike van Erp slammed the former footballer for ‘getting off scot-free’ despite his video recording of the incident in Kensington, west London.

From a road safety perspective, it pisses me off when I see people using hand held devices to text, make calls or whatever, when they should be concentrating on the road and in full control of their vehicle, so I’d have had no sympathy if the prosecution went ahead. However, I utterly despise these pompous, self-righteous, self-appointed stasi vigilante types who set themselves up to charge around trying to catch people out. So it comes down to who I dislike the most and it’s Mike van Erp by a country mile.

  1. That’s the “cycling mikey” idiot from YouTube
doing the polices work for them, I hold the guy in utter contempt and would love to meet him somewhere “private”

  2. I think you’re wrong and right. Wrong because I watched quite a few of the Gandalf Corner YT videos. It’s basically self entitled morons driving on the wrong side of the road and cutting a dangerous blind corner, all to save themselves 15 seconds of sitting in the traffic. I think CyclingMikey does a great job.

Where I think you’re right is harassing someone on the phone in a stationary vehicle. I realise it’s an offence, but I’m not sure it should be.

    • On your second point, there is no risk to others when the vehicle is stationary, so harrasing people like this is unnecessary.

While on the move, it’s dangerous and should be prosecuted. However, like Mark, I despise utterly the kind of self-appointed vigilante types like cycling Mikey more than I do the offenders.

  3. Disgusting little fascist lickspittle wannabe block warden. Exactly the same as the Gestapo and NKVD snitches. The red guards, the khmer lunatics and a thousand others. I imagine there were verminous little shitstains like this hanging round the priests in Jericho.

Am I over reacting and being hyperbolic here? How can I compare such an upright, stout hearted, veritable oak of decency to the Gestapo?

Well, just look at the last two years.

The stupid shit I see on the roads daily (and I’m not going to insult anybody by claiming that I haven’t done some stupid shit myself over my almost 40 years of driving).

Somebody cuts me up say. I think “cunt” and 10 seconds later will have forgotten it. Who do I tell anyway? The police? (Quiet at the back there!)

No, youtube and soshul meeja of course (any video put onto this sewer is unlikely to be usable for an actual prosecution, although it might give the old bill an excuse to come round and try to entrap you).

“Cycling mikey” just another child with all restraint removed.

The police have effectively been removed (the ones that would have effectively pulled most of this sort of thing up 30-40 years ago). This is what replaces them.

  4. In my village we have had a group of women wearing hi viz vests with the words Community Speed Watch or something similar on the back. They stick up their Community Speed Watch warning sign and point a speed gun at approaching cars and take notes on a clipboard. We don’t have a problem with excess speed in the village and I’m not aware of their having been any accidents in years. Anyway, I haven’t seen them now for a few weeks so it’s either too cold or they have finished and have reported their findings to the local plod.

    • People were – and are- encouraged to snitch on anybody breaking the chink flu rules. The recent changes to the highway code giving priority to pushbikes at junction were done solely to encourage degenerates like this (I’d be very interested to know how precisely the highway code is updated and who provides the inputs which can then be used to justify this sort of thing).

Schools doing their damnest to churn out little red guards and, of course, the sewer that is soshul meeja.

Who actually wants to live in a society “policed” like this?

A depressingly large number it would appear.

  5. If it was just a random cyclist who saw someone driving dangerously enough to actually be a risk on the road, then fair enough. When it’s a “Vigilante cyclist”, them no, sod ’em
I’ve always believed in ‘No harm, no foul’ though

  6. Yep, Little Stalins in my opinion.
Also it something that far too many people I know would endorse, well they would right up until something like it happened to them,
and even then they probably wouldn’t join the dots.
What’s next though in this progression ?
    Compulsory snitching ?
“We have been informed that you saw one of our laws being broken and you failed to inform us”

  7. I’ve come across this Van Erp guy in the media before and quickly formed the view that he is an attention seeking spanner
