Britain is not a racist country.
Rishi Sunak today insisted Britain is not a racist country in the wake of Prince Harry and Meghan’s claims in their Netflix documentary.
The Prime Minister also defended the Royal Family following attacks made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the couple’s docuseries with the streaming giant.
Speaking in Riga, Latvia, after attending a meeting of some of Britain’s military allies, Mr Sunak said he was ‘really proud’ of the UK.
And he described his ‘enormous privilege’ in being able to champion institutions such as the monarchy while abroad.
Rishi Sunak is of Indian heritage. He has risen – okay, not entirely fairly – to the high echelons of our political establishment. In a racist country, this would be unthinkable. Many of us – me included – don’t much like him, but it isn’t because of his race, it’s because of his politics. The ‘Britain is a racist country’ meme is a construct that defies reality. That said, the more they keep doing it, the more it becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy. I was brought up to treat everyone as I find them and the colour of someone’s skin is irrelevant. Now I find myself exercising caution and being overly suspicious when around ethnic minorities. After all, one small word out of place can get you into hot water.
I do not like the place this country has become and I despise the people who have made it this way.
So true… but nobody can make a career out of recognising the ordinary.
Remember that I mentioned that lowbrow entertainment show Strictly Come Dancing in a comment on an earlier post? The racist British public voted a black guy the winner. Another of the finalists was a black woman, my personal favourite mainly due to her fantastic thighs. One of the pro dancers in the final was Chinese.
There is a lot of racism in Britain but it doesn’t come from ordinary Brits, it comes from the pushers of diversity. That kid who complained about the colour of his teachers for instance. He is fourteen, I doubt that he came up with this stuff himself, someone is filling this kid’s head with racist crap.
You are right.
Further, there is a lot of racism between ethnic minority groups: Africans against Asians, and vice versa. And not infrequently Africans against Caribbeans and vice versa.
Whites are very likely to be the least racist of people.
In Strictly I voted for Fleur because I thought she was the best dancer in the final. I didn’t consider the skin colour, the personal struggles outside the competition or the ‘journey’ that any of them are on.
“In Strictly I voted for Fleur because I thought she was the best dancer in the final.”
And had the best thighs?
I don’t get invested enough to bother voting but I was glad that Fleur reached the final.
I have a feeling that our host might want to put a stop to this part of the thread but I think that it is quite relevant to the issue. A hugely popular show that is extremely diverse and relies heavily on public votes provides very strong evidence that the Brits are not racist in general.
From ‘Strictly’ to 80s pop and the news of the death of Terry Hall of the Specials.
I suspect the line-up and fan base of the band (and other two-tone groups) would come as something of a surprise to those millennials who believe everything they have been told about racism in Britain’s recent past and the attitudes of our generation.
It’s sad, really; back then, we thought we were moving towards a society where everyone would be treated on merit and no distinction made on the basis of skin colour, yet we are now heading (or being driven) rapidly in the opposite direction.
I agree,, a minority is racist, you just ignore them, the rest of us just treat people as we find them, some we like some are not very nice. It doesn’t matter what country they are from or what their skin, eye, hair colour or religion is. But it did make me think that as a country we are getting more diverse. There was a local report that children of colour can’t see themselves in christmas stuff. Most things don’t relate to humans so don’t count but elves, pixies, angels etc are usually white. I do a lot of crafts and make cards so try and put a diverse selection of children, etc. The thing is I use stamps and they do not make them of afro, oriental or Asian people . I can alter and colour some in but its the hair that’s difficult. The point is most of these stamps come from the good old USA. I do intend to write to some of these companies to see if they can help. I like to Personalise cards and I know people who would appreciate it.
If you see a problem try and rectify it, it’s most likely an oversight, it is not people being racist.
I just came across this story, people immediately assuming racism when there’s none there.

In my experience you have to be careful around black people who i find very often play the race card. Asians, Chinese etc no problem.
