Reform is facing an acid test here.
Nigel Farage is facing a fightback from council staff over Reform UK‘s bid to cut public spending. The insurgent party has set up a “UK Doge”, spearheaded by former chairman Zia Yusuf, based on the US Department of Government Efficiency which was led by tech billionaire Elon Musk.
But unions have reported a surge in membership in town halls run by Reform. Unison said it saw an average jump in new members of 167% between the week before the local elections and the one after the polls closed across the 10 Reform UK-controlled councils.
This is an early example of what they will face if they form a government.
General secretary Christina McAnea said: “A party that’s voted consistently against modest measures to improve working conditions and threatened to sack council staff at the earliest opportunity doesn’t give confidence to working people.
“Reform has been keen to shout about its tax and benefits giveaways, but there’s precious little on which cherished public services will be sacrificed to pay for them.”
Public sector workers are a cost to the taxpayer. It is perfectly right that the taxpayer gets value for money. That is what Doge is all about. As for what public services will be cut, again, that’s the point of Doge. It isn’t about cutting essential services, it’s about cutting waste, and I would start with equality and inclusion programmes.
Yep, Durham commies, they didn’t even invite Reform councillors to Miners Gala this weekend. What a loss. Palestinian flags galore, fights and defecating on the streets. An occasional burkha and a trans freak. Welcome to modern England.
“…there’s precious little on which cherished public services will be sacrificed…”
Maybe just sacrifice the non cherished ones then.
There’s plenty of those.
A few P45s for senior managers would certainly draw a line for others to cross, if they dare.
Joining Unison? They must be desperate . . .
they’re so obsessed, totally and utterly, with Farage that they just cannot – more likely will not – see the huge elephant in the room.
public opinion!
just like unions in 1978 who made pretty blatant and naked threats as to what they would do if Thatcher was elected (and they did try).
in 4 years – if we actually have to wait that long – the grooming gang enquiry will be underway (and it ain’t going away). Doubtless attempts will be made to delay. Absolutely attempts will be made to blame.
And who will those responsible try to blame?
I don’t know if the carbon based sewage (B liar being the primary example) ultimately responsible will pay but I really wouldn’t want to have been part of a thousand and one parasitical “agencies” who acted with such wilful spite against native British people for so long (and are doing so as I type)
I can’t think of a single public service that I ‘Cherish’
