Welsh Labour MP Kevin Brennan is bringing a private members bill to stop cold callers pestering householders. While it is unlikely to become law, certainly I support the idea. These people are pests. All too frequently they withhold their telephone numbers making it difficult to trace the caller and make a formal complaint.
I registered our number with the Telephone Preference Service. Certainly this reduces the nuisance dramatically. It didn’t stop a medical insurance company calling us twice last week, though. These people were really persistent and aggressive with their patter. Despite the negative response, the caller continued with her script barely pausing for breath. When I pointed out that this was the second call, she merely switched to another script….
"Perhaps the other agent didn’t fully explain the benefits…."
"Can I just stop you there…."
"If you keep an open mind, Mr Ellott I can explain…."
"I said, can I stop you there…"
She hung up on me eventually.
I really, really hate telesales calls. And if you represent a company that uses this method, be aware of this – I never, never buy anything from anyone who cold calls, be it over the telephone, at the door or through unsolicited mail or email.
Just go away!
