A BWanksy mural is going on sale in Bristol with the house on which it is daubed thrown in…
The owners of a Banksy mural have put it up for sale and have included their house in Bristol as part of the deal.
The sellers of 21 Milvart Street were horrified when they learnt that all perspective* buyers would remove the mural after contracts were exchanged.
Given that it is a grotesque piece of graffiti, that it is nothing more than vandalism, I too, would immediately remove it. What this suggests is that the prospective buyers have so far expressed a modicum of taste. Art may be subjective, but everything produced by this cretin has so far failed miserably in the aesthetic stakes. His work[sic] is over hyped and dreadful.
The owners consider it a work of art and want it kept as it is. They came to us to help sell it as a mural with a house attached.
There’s no accounting for taste, of course… If I wanted the house enough, I’d buy the “work of art” and promptly remove it once the contracts had been exchanged.
Meanwhile, a London council has admitted street cleaners accidentally washed off two Banksy murals, including one of a girl in a frilly dress wearing a gas mask, off the side of a building.
Good for them. I do hope they are due a hefty bonus for their stirling work and contribution to art.
*Perspective, eh? Looks like Aunty hasn’t been proofreading…
It does make me wonder at times how these ‘artists’ get the careers they have when there’s so much better out there.
It’s all to do with their ability to self promote. Banksy’s “art” simply makes the statement that Banksy is a self-righteous knob. He has, however, managed to market himself with all the secrecy surrounding his real persona and having spokespeople to talk for him. It’s all bollocks, of course, but successful bollocks.
“The sellers of 21 Milvart Street were horrified when they learnt that all perspective* buyers would remove the mural after contracts were exchanged. ”
Fantastic – so we have a decent “before and after” case here, which will put a reasonably precise value onto the “art” in question.
I predict, pace the K foundation Turner Prize stunt, that it is unlikely to be positive…
Given that;
a) the prospective buyers have expressed a desire to be rid of it and
b) it’s a pile of utter wank
I’m inclined to agree with you.
