Spied basking in the garden this afternoon. It’s a southern smooth snake (Coronella girondica). Apparently their numbers are in decline, so we’ll let this fellow carry on living in our wall.
He’ll keep your rodent population in check even better than the cats!

I know a dormouse that lives a few stones down who had better watch his step 😉
he’ll certainly decrease your lizard population, these animals prefer a diet of lizards and other snakes. if your dormouse is the “edible dormouse” (Glis glis) he’s likely to be too big for a smooth snake to bother with.

Yes, he probably is. The snake was a fairly small specimen, most likely a juvenile. The lizards, rather wisely, seem to congregate near the house well away from where I found this fellow – those that haven’t been eaten one presumes.
