JuliaM comments on the sickening display of sentimentality in Liverpool two decades after Hillsborough. Well, yes, but last year Manchester United out did them by wallowing in indulgent self-pity over an air crash half a century ago. There is something deeply sanctimonious about the world of football. Something quasi-religious; such is the seriousness with which it regards itself. I guess that it is necessary. After all, the mind-numbingly tedious game it is centred upon is the ultimate cure for insomnia. |
