Train à Vapeur des Cévennes

Blogging has been somewhat light this week – real life intervened. As we have guests staying, they have taken up my time. My nephew being a train enthusiast, we thought we would take him to see the train à vapeur des Cévennes. Running from Anduze it climbs through the foothills of the Cevénnes to St Jean Du Gard.

The trip is about forty minutes in each direction and there is a lunch break of French proportions before the return trip if you take the mid morning journey. The whole thing is a leisurely day out and even if steam trains aren’t your thing (here, I admit to having a passion for the sight, sounds and smell of live steam), then the scenery makes the trip worthwhile. If you are in the area, it’s well worth the visit.

So, here are some pictures. Normal blogging will resume shortly.

  1. Many thanks for this, as I too am a friend of la bete humaine. Smells seem to have a greater effect on memory and nostalgia than the other senses, so the coal and the warm oil are the crucial ingredients.
