Silly Hyperbole

Watching the BBC News a few moments ago; the presenter introduced the next topic with the facile comment that everyone over thirty remembers where they were when this happened.

Well, I’m over thirty and… No, I don’t. But that’s because, being an adult, I don’t measure the passage of my life by football matches. Enough of the silly hyperbole, please. It’s just a bloody game and not a very good one at that.

  1. I’d say ‘as per Dick P’ or ‘sitting in the lounge watching TV’ would be safe bets?

  2. All I remember of it was endless playing of Pavarotti singing ‘Nessum Dorma’ and some overpaid idiot footballer crying like a baby. You couldn’t not remember, they had wall to wall coverage on the idiot box.

  3. I have this uncanny knack of filtering it out. I was a driving instructor in 1990, so I might have been out on the road. Then again, I might not. I don’t recall.

  4. I remember getting a truly lovely meal at a near deserted restraunt near Winchester when ‘In-ger-land’ was playing someone during a World Cup something in 1990.

Was that it? (I couldn’t be bothered to read the link as it was clearly about footbore…..)

  5. Yeah, it was. Not content with boring us to death with the current round of tedium, they want to numb our brains with previous cockwaffle.
