Oops!

Yesterday’s fatalities on the M11 were tragic enough. But the thought springs to mind, this being a road and vehicles having steering wheels, people could at least steer round the obstruction.

The northbound carriageway of the M11 was closed to allow access to a recovery crane but was reopened at 1350 BST.

The southbound carriageway, which needed more clear-up work and repairs to the nearside crash-barrier, was reopened at 1455 BST.

Oh!

  2. No.
In today’s world the state/government/council/EU/UN aka ‘the controllers’ never miss an opportunity to show their slaves who is boss.

  3. You couldn’t let it lie, could you?

It amused me, so no. 👿

You might need a new wooden spoon soon, you’re fast wearing that one out.

    You reckon?

Englishman – Indeed so. Railways also use diversionary routes. 😉

From what I was reading, part of the diversionary route was also closed at one point, which was a bit of a bugger.

  4. Diversionary routes on the railways aren’t used as often as they used to be, mainly because the train operating companies are now operating in their own hermetic little bubbles and drivers don’t have the knowledge of alternative routes. Plus with most trains operating in fixed formations now you can’t just, say, attach a diesel locomotive to an electrically hauled train and run it via a non electrified route, even if you could find a locomotive ( like hen’s teeth these days ) and a driver to work it. None of this is due to any inherent inflexibility in railways, blame the politicians and bean counters.

  5. The problems that afflict both rail and road – apart from sheer congestion – are mostly caused by politics. The tendency for the police to just shut everything for hours on end gripes both rail and road users. many of the problems we face on both sets of infrastructure are common to both.
