And What Business is it of Yours?

Sean Penn continues the tradition of Hollywood vacuousness with his pronouncements about the Falklands.

The actor Sean Penn has weighed into the Falklands dispute, urging Britain to join UN-sponsored talks over what he called “the Malvinas Islands of Argentina“.

Penn met Argentina’s president, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, in Buenos Aires and said: “It’s necessary that these diplomatic talks happen between the United Kingdom and Argentina. I think that the world today is not going to tolerate any kind of ludicrous and archaic commitment to colonialist ideology.”

Right… So who, exactly, is Penn to be making pronouncements about what should be happening regarding sovereignty of the Falklands? Does he live there? Nope. Well, none of his business, then, just as it is none of Cristina de Kirchner’s.

  1. It’s possible that a large segment of US public opinion will in fact flock to support the UK’s side in this dispute as a result of Penn’s intervention, such is the degree of twattishness that many Americans reserve for the man…

  2. I agree with him…we should “hand them back” just after Alaska is given back to Canada / Russia (whichever, I’m not fussed). Then Hawaii, why is that part of the US?

    Oh yeah and fuck off Sean

  3. Sean Penn is very much into left-wing — especially South American — politics. (Funny, I still recall his days in the Brat Pack (1980s), when he seemed more mainstream.)

    Or yours. You don’t live there, so…..

    Be careful before you write. You can argue yourself into deep shit, as here.

    • You’re way off piste with this one. I don’t have to live on the islands myself to point out that Penn’s interference is out of order as it is none of his business. Anyone can do that.

      I suggest you look at what I said (which was very little), not what you appear to be thinking that I said. So, no talking myself into deep shit at all, not even close. Indeed, I stand firmly behind my comment. It is none of Penn’s or Kirchner’s business.

    It is YOU that said;

    Because he does not live there, it is none of his bussiness. I.E, he can not have a view regarding the Islands.

    YET you do NOT LIVE THERE, but it is O.K for YOU to have a view on the matter?

    Your logic is….fuzzy.

    • Your logic is….fuzzy.

      No, it isn’t because you are knocking down a straw man. At no point did I say he cannot have a view. It is not his place to be seeking to interfere in international diplomacy regarding sovereignty of the islands. Equally, I am not interfering in international diplomacy. Pretty clear, frankly. You have made a classic mistake of assuming something that isn’t there. there is no i.e., just what I said, nothing more, nothing less.
