Conspiracy Theory Du Jour

If you think the tinfoil hatters who believe that Dubya masterminded 9/11 (yeah, right), or that the moon landings were faked, or the magic bullet killed JFK or that hmg were responsible for 7/7 are deluded conspiraloons, you will be amused to see that the climate alarmists have jumped firmly on the bandwagon.

A secretive funding organisation in the United States that guarantees anonymity for its billionaire donors has emerged as a major operator in the climate “counter movement” to undermine the science of global warming, The Independent has learnt.

To be fair, the “Koch brothers are funding climate denial” meme isn’t exactly new. All I can say is; where’s my cheque?

Like all conspiracy theories, its all stuff that is out in the open and is being peddled as some sort of dark secret. Not much of a secret, then, and the conspirators aren’t exactly very competent, are they?

Ultimately, though, so what if the Kochs have funded scepticism? Governments worldwide have been funding (with our money) “climate science” that is, er, nothing like real science. All’s fair in love and war, eh?

  1. The flipside of conspiracy theorists are those who are quick to condemn any analysis of motives or economic self interest as a “conspiracy theory”, which has become as tiresome as the “conspiraloons”.

I have been called a “conspiracy theorist” for saying that our prevailing economic ideology prioritises high unemployment to keep wage inflation low. The fact that Thatcher said as much when she commented that high unemployment was a “price worth paying” means that it can’t be much of a fecking conspiracy.

  2. Now that Big Oil has seen the error of its ways or, rather, has decided to immerse itself in the flood of taxpayers’ funds produced by the climate change alarmists, the warmists are desperate to identify another villain who can be blamed for the failure of their pseudo science.

Meanwhile the Independent provides another illustration of its crap journalism. After all, it’s not news that the Koch brothers have been active in the AGW wars. Moreover, the brothers’ support for those defending a desperate throw of the reputational dice by the Hockey Stick trickster is not evidence of them undermining climate “science”. Aiding those exposing the pretensions of the self-styled “winner of the Nobel Peace Prize” is a service to science rather than its opposite.

Furthermore, the allegation in the quoted article that the Climategate emails were “illegally” hacked is sufficient to damn the Independent as a purveyor of unadulterated truth. As the Independent is aware, the Norwich Police in an extended investigation were unable (despite the weasel words of their announcement winding up the investigation) to establish whether or not a crime had been committed, let alone how the leak occurred.

    • Big Oil has worked out that we are going to want oil, to maintain our Western lifestyles (or attain Western lifestyles if you don’t yet have one), however much the Eco-freaks jump up and down. It won’t change demand for their product. And so they have decided that it won’t harm their business one iota if they fund a bit of eco-nuttery, and get into bed with the Climate Change brigade. They just want an easy life, and they are buying the silence of the Greens with money.

  3. Sorry, but this is not news.
The Kochs are no longer a “secret” – they kept a very low profile for a while, but they are rich crooks with an agenda.
Meanwhile, Climate Change is a problem, for now.
However, if we can be truly “green” & use nuclear power sensibly, together with other technical changes in the pipeline (did I just asy that?) then we should be OK – PROVIDED we get those new power-sources on line.
I note the Chinese are looking very carefully at Thorium reactors, which, if true is very good news.

  4. Just spent the day with some conservationists. Nice people, they mentioned the no warming in 15 years bit and that we are currently in an interglacial so climate was bound to do funny things.

Wondering if conservationists and environmentalists have fundamentally different views, or if I just lucky…

    • No, the facts are fairly clear.
      GW is happening.
It is so likely that man-made effects are partly to blame that we must take precautions.
AT THE SAME TIME we are currently in a slow-down (& possible temorary halt) of the warming – partly due to the temporal position in the current solar cycle.

A REAL environmentlaist will be in favour of proper nuclear power, not against it, for instance.
There are other exampples, but that’s the really obvious one!
