Pretty much classic example of “something must be done” mentality. I find this interesting though in the light of the recent claims about cats mass murdering small things, I don’t say there’s a direct connection but a narrative seems to be developing. Pets are a problem, they must be controlled and just as with people the way to do it is through an ID card. How long before someone seriously suggests a limit to the amount of cats or dogs anyone is allowed to own ? I give it about five years, after that microchipping will be compulsory for cats too and no one will be able to own more than two, reducing to one after a few more years. Of course that may have to wait until the more important tasks of banning tobacco and severely limiting access to alcohol, sugar and fat are completed.
If you are a social housing tenant in some areas, there already is a limit (numbers or size) on the animals you are allowed to own…
