Before we were all fat…
We are not all fat. Indeed, very few of us are actually fat. Just go out onto any High Street and look at the population. Very few of them are fat or obese. The idea that we are all fat is a lie.
Should we therefore bring back rationing?
No. Now go back to the totalitarian hell-hole you crawled out from, you egregious creatures.
That is bizarre, is the person writing the article fat?
I note that even in the Groan, the correspondents are taking the piss, as much as possible …..
Well, yes, they are, and it’s good to see, but even so there seem to be a lot of unchallenged assumptions in that thread:
People were healthier during and after the war than they are now- surely that is not true, by whatever measure of health you take.
Bacon is processed meat- no it isn’t, it is salted/cured meat.
Eating meat is somehow naughty, and eating a lot of it is bad- we are omnivores, meat is much more nutritious than vegetables. A high meat diet is better for our health and our wallet. The fact that Guardian readers feel guilty about their ability to eat well doesn’t mean eating well is in any sense wrong.
It’s cheaper to raise horses than pigs- yes, I know you’re legally obliged to make a joking reference to horsemeat every thousand words these days, but I’m not sure this is true. In the south of Spain, and in England for taht matter, families kept a pig because it largely looked after itself and when you killed it you could use everything except the bones. In the north of Spain, where grass is lush and cheap, it’s true that people often kept a horse (in fact they still do in some areas), but usually it was a pig.
XXand when you killed it you could use everything except the bones. XX
No. Break the bones open and add the … (AAARRGGHHH! Whats it called in English…. The innards of the bone.. I am sure ONE of you know what the name is…PLEASE!?) Any way, add it to soup or stock. And the bones UNCOOKED, can be used to make everytiong from Needles, buttons, combs, to fishing hooks.
Pigs eyes taste bloody GREAT!!! Brains, toungue…. everything.
NOTHING from a pig is waste. (Na, maybe the teeth.)
The marrow?
You’re right, I hadn’t thought of that. Long time since I killed a pig 😉
I’ve never seen an anorexic politician. 😐
Fella you just don’t understand what “fat” is in the eyes of these people do you?
Firstly, they came up with a thing called the BMI score which is a load of bollocks anyway. But then they self defined what they called “healthy BMI” (which is even more bollocks but bear with me)
Then, they decided that if you were up to 5% above that definition you were fat, and if you were more than 10% over you were clinically obese.
Job done! They self defined healthy weight, and built a scoring system on top which allows them to call everyone a fat fucker so they can get thier funding!
Trebles all round!
Just as a matter of interest; Could this TED talk be interpreted as “Have a steak – Save the planet.”
😈
What I don’t understand is this. On one hand we are told that we are getting older, so we are not allowed to have decent pensions because they “cannot be afforded”. On the other hand we are told that we are gaining weight and will die young as a result of it. So which is it? I fully expect to die before I am 60 because my father died when he was that age and so did his father and short lives run in all the male members of my family. I am fit and healthy and not obese. The greatest determinant of longevity is family history. Frankly I don’t know why I have amassed a large pension pot. I suppose I am hedging my bets that I might be the one to buck the trend.
