Because they are criminals who caused millions of pounds worth of damage, that’s why. I wonder sometimes just what level of criminal activity writers over at the Groan won’t try to justify. LulzSec were not some champions of the downtrodden, they were not modern day Robin Hoods, they were not magnanimous knights fighting against “the man”, they were stupid and criminal teenagers who needed a sharp lesson in growing up. Some jail time will hopefully serve just that purpose. Not only are they arseholes, so are their apologists; idiots such as James Bell, for example. I note that he rightfully gets crucified in the comments.

I think some factors are who the perpetrator is, who the victim is, the claimed intention behind it, and whether it can be used to attack the right or push for more government powers.
For Comment Is Free, I think they’re happy to publish the insane just to stir the pot so it gets them comments and traffic.
