Freedom of Speech is “Wrong”

So sayeth Liberal Democrat authoritarian shit, Ed Davey.

Mr Davey will attack “destructive and loudly clamouring scepticism” about climate change, and criticise parts of the media for the way they report that scepticism.

The wheels are falling off the climate change bandwagon and the adherents are becoming ever more shrill in their screeching.

According to a speech text given to the BBC before its delivery, Mr Davey will attack newspapers who give what he says is undue space to reporting those who are sceptical about the climate consensus.

Yup, that’s how freedom of speech works and newspapers may give a platform to whoever they please, being privately owned enterprises. The BBC happily gives an uncritical platform to all of the eco-nutters who spout junk science –  and we pay for that and have to put up with the propaganda it spouts.

Ultimately, what matters here is not who is right or who is wrong; it is that a politician dares to presume that he should decide what we may hear –  or not. That’s the kind of behaviour I would expect from Iran. In a liberal democracy, I expect to be able to hear all sides of a debate and I expect the orthodoxy to be rigorously and robustly challenged, so that when they lie to us, we can see through it.

Oh, er, I see….

  1. Recent history (post WWII) shows clearly that the so-called ‘liberal left’ are in fact anything but. Although they spout verbiage regarding “tolerance and respect” they will only ever tolerate and respect their own camp-followers: Mr Straw in particular having shown just how damned authoritarian these “liberal lefties” become when once given office.

Their damned smug arrogance which brooks no dissent really makes me want to reach for a gun…

One of my earlier quotes; ” The difference between a biker and a hippy (which seems to be the main insult thrown at Motorbike riders in central Scotland.) A hippy will give you a rose. A biker will uproot the entire bush, and complete with thorns, will stuff it up your arse”.

Sorry, your post just brought it to mind. 😆 🙄

  2. BOLLOCKS.

Telling deliberate lies in public, because you’ve been paid by the Koch Brothers &/or Exxon is also wrong.

      Law.
      a.
defamation by written or printed words, pictures, or in any form other than by spoken words or gestures.
      b.
the act or crime of publishing it.
      c.
a formal written declaration or statement, as one containing the allegations of a plaintiff or the grounds of a charge.
      2.
anything that is defamatory or that maliciously or damagingly misrepresents.

    • Where’s my cheque? Also, holding an opinion and challenging the orthodoxy is not “telling lies”. it is freedom of speech.
