Absolutely Not

The police are as much thieving scum as our political overlords, it seems.

A court hearing has begun to decide if police can seize the family home of a man convicted of terrorism offences.

It would be easy to go for the low hanging fruit and declare that they are right to do so, for the guilty man was an enemy of this nation and its people. Someone who was prepared to maim and kill in the name of his religion. However, think again…

The house is estimated to be worth about £200,000 and is registered in the name of Farooqi’s wife and daughter.

Seven members of Farooqi’s family from three generations still live in the house and they say the application is a breach of their right to family life.

His wife and daughter have not been convicted. So, therefore, they are not guilty of anything. They should not be punished by having their property seized. Also, I am increasingly concerned by the trend to make the accused pay for their prosecution and defence costs. Sorry, but this is an abhorrence. There is much I deplore about being taxed, but the criminal justice system is one of those things the taxpayer should fund. There is something deeply wrong about a system that punishes people twice. Farooqi is serving time for his offences. That is his punishment. That the state now thinks it okay to make his wife and daughter foot the cost is immoral.

If the state believes we have committed a crime, then the state should foot the bill for proving it – in its entirety. If money is a problem, stop funding fake charities, quangos and overseas aid.

  1. If the house was bought in joint names one assumes they could not claim more than half its value?

  2. The Yanks take property if they suspect drug dealing has taken place on it. No conviction needed and it doesn’t have to have been the property owner who dealt the drugs.

It was brought in to deal with organised crime but of course, is being used to target all and sundry

    • Why is it that everything that’s crap about the US slithers its way over here, whereas everything that’s good about the US stays firmly over there …… ?
