Newspeak or What?

Mr Winnick wants the UK to consider a system similar to that in Australia, where people who do not vote, or at least express their intention to abstain, are fined.

He insists his proposals do not constitute compulsory voting as such.

Cognitive dissonance abounds here. What this popinjay has just described is compulsory voting. And, no, it is not nor should ever be, regarded as a civic duty. There is no such thing as a civic duty. As for democracy, this is merely the least worst system than the others that have been tried. It is not worthy of the adulation poured upon it by the jackanapes, mountebanks and charlatans who want us to vote for them.

Every five years these grifters pretend to seek our opinion in order to gain sufficient endorsement to return them to the gravy train for another five years; whereupon promises are ignored, our opinions are treated with contempt, more of our money is stolen from us and our liberties are repeatedly arse-raped. Frankly, this process is akin to asking a slave what colour stick he wants to be beaten with.

Not turning up is abstaining. I don’t need to have to formally tell these creatures my intentions.

  1. So many good points. I am sick and tired of other people either trying to tell me what to do or ordering me about. I resist. Now a certain party in opposition is going to try to add years to our lives by making us miserable by (presumably) making life’s little pleasures either more expensive or more dilute. I really, really hate these nannies.

  2. Sorry, wanted to but couldn’t make it because of,,,,,,,,,

Would they try and fine me for that?

    How would they know anyway?

Or maybe they’ll make postal voting compulsory? Best of luck with that!

  3. OTOH
There is the OTHER way (which “They” really would not like) …
Voting is made compulsory, but …
there’s an extra box: “None of the Above”
    If n o t a “wins, than there’s a bye-election with a completely fresh set of candidates.
Could be fun – somehow though, I don’t think they will go for it, do you?
