Fuck Off!

The ginger spare wants to bring back slavery.

Prince Harry has called for the country to bring back National Service after revealing his time in the Army ‘saved’ him.

Just because it was good for him, it doesn’t follow that it will be good for others and there are plenty who can and do manage perfectly well without being subjected to military discipline and being shot at by angry foreigners.

But that is by the by – our lives belong to us not the state. The state has no moral right to force us into servitude. National Service is an appalling anachronism that rightly belongs in the past and must never be resurrected. We are free people, not slaves of the state.  Harry can go fuck himself with the rough end of a pineapple wrapped in razor wire.

  1. His time in the army was not and was never going to be normal. He’s a prince and a few places removed heir to the throne. Was he ever going to have a normal army career? Of course not. If a prince or princess had to do national service would they be treated the same as Joe or Jane Soap? Of course not. It’s a good way of tackling youth unemployment though so don’t be surprised if this is a bit of softening up.

  2. Heaven forfend that our feral street-life and ‘gangstas’ could return to the streets actually trained to effectively use the weaponry they so frequently misuse.

  3. “The state has no moral right to force us into servitude.” Neither does it have a moral duty to give thousands of Pounds a year to idle, drug-taking, wankers who can’t be bothered to get out of their smelly pits and look for work.
I know that we have jousted over this topic before, and I regret that we must, again, agree to differ. Dr Evil was partly correct in that Harry’s Army career was never going to be normal. However, when he was put in situations where his royalty was irrelevant, flying Apache helicopters or management of his troops by leading through example, he had the added burden of having to be better or as good as, other troop commanders or helicopter pilots, just to show that he wasn’t a chocolate fireguard. There are very few secrets amongst the troops and if Harry was a complete waste of space, it would have been made known long before now. In my time, I served with officers of fairly noble families and while some were complete plonkers who turned up, preened in their uniforms, got their medals and left to show Mummy, the majority took their roles seriously and truly earned their awards and promotions. Dr Evil was also correct in some form of National Service, perhaps modified in some format, being a good way of tackling youth unemployment and even crime.

    • Harry was a volunteer. Enforced servitude is always wrong in all circumstances. There is never an excuse for it. The state has no right whatsoever to steal a chunk of our lives. There is absolutely no circumstance where so doing is justified. We belong to ourselves, not the state. If it is wrong for the state to give our money to the idle and feckless, just stop doing it. If people then decide that an Army career is the way forward – providing the army even wants them – so be it.

Had I found myself faced with this possibility, I’d have broken the law sooner than allow the state to force me into its service.

  4. There’s the OTHER problem with “National Service”
    PAYING for it.
    Forget it.
