Yesterday my phone started making a noise – music that was unfamiliar. When I looked at it, there was a full screen advert for some poker site or some such rubbish.
I was pretty quick to figure out the culprit. After all, if you install an app and a few hours later the phone starts misbehaving, the last thing you did is a fair place to start. It seems that some developers are sneaking push advertising in their code.
Okay, some apps have overt advertising. Fair enough, I’m not interested in the wares being peddled, but have no particular beef with them doing it if the app is useful to me, I just ignore the advert at the bottom of the screen. This, however, is a whole new level of bad behaviour. This is snuck in under the radar. Obviously, because anyone with any sense isn’t going to willingly install what amounts to malware on their device. Fortunately, ridding the phone of this crap was a simple matter, and I will never install anything by this developer ever again and will actively recommend others avoid it like the plague. That worked well didn’t it?
That’s the thing, here… In what universe do these cretins think that their behaviour is in way acceptable and what makes them think any wares they are trying to plug will benefit from what amounts to hijacking someone’s phone? Have they learned nothing from intrusive advertising on the web? Nothing at all?
Did you slag it off on GOogle Store too? That would be the best way to get back
I didn’t, but will do 😉

And this is exactly the sort of thing which has me ditching the app, no matter how useful it might have been.
I’m still happy with my iPhone, which doesn’t do any such thing.
