Ya Think?

Getting out of control?

The vice-chancellor of Buckingham University Sir Anthony Seldon said: ‘There is a real danger political correctness is getting out of control. We need to understand the world as it was and not to rewrite history as some might like it to have been.’

If Seldon thinks that political correctness is getting out of control, he hasn’t been paying Attention. We are now living in a world where the offenderati take to the world of twatter and farcebook to silence ideas and voices they dislike, where mere words will see you thrown out of your job, castigated and ostracised, where the snowflakes in the students union no-platform people who have views that might challenge their deeply held prejudices and where racism, providing it is whitey on the receiving end is just dandy, where men-only clubs are sexist, but women-only ones are feminism fighting back, where men – white men in particular – are all potential rapists and child-abusers and if not, they are racist because privilege or some such bollocks. Oh, no, political correctness is not getting out of control, it has gone way, way beyond that.

And, Seldon should reflect upon this; it is institutions such as his that incubated this evil and gave it life.

  1. I’m making a wild assumption that Ali Habib is a Muslim. Why the hell would we want someone who reveres a man who married a six year old and had intercouse with her at nine years old, who murdered, robbed, sanctioned rape of captives and made up a god called Allah to offer us any advice on what should be studied at university? To be a practicing Muslim is incompatible with being intelligent, such dumb arseholes don’t belong at a university.

  2. They’ll be sending Seldon for re-education coming up with (belated) common sense truth telling like that.

  3. You’re wrong about this LR. Buckingham University is a private University with excellent academic standards that receives no money from the state. It has done nothing to incubate political correctness. You owe this man an apology.

    • Disagree. LR’s point about unis as a general category is 100% correct, and some ivory tower inhabitant suddenly noticing THE BLEEDIN OBVIOUS decades too late doesn’t change that.

      • Dear Argh

Just because the place has the word ‘University’ in its title does not make it eligible to be tarred with the same brush as similar institutions.

How do you know that Sir Anthony has not commented on this decades ago, but has not been widely reported, if at all?

Certainly he brings an authoritative voice to the cause, as historian, former Master of Wellington College and son of Arthur Seldon, co-founder of the Institute of Economic Affairs.

We ought to be grateful for that.
