The Treasury needs to work harder to find a woman to succeed Mark Carney as governor of the Bank of England, according to two of parliament’s most influential select committee chairs.

Here we go again, identity politics being wheeled out by the usual suspects. Here’s a controversial idea – how about hiring the best person for the job, regardless of race, creed or gender, but on competence and competence alone?
