How long will the misquoting of Margaret Thatcher’s “no such thing as society” bullshit go on?
Boris Johnson rallied Britain for a long battle against coronavirus last night – contradicting his predecessor Margaret Thatcher by insisting the country is showing ‘there is such a thing as society’.
Further down the page, the article not only includes the original quote, but does mention the context. But most people will only read the headline. Thatcher was not saying what most people believe that she was saying and still the lie persists.
Amazing for some of us to stand up for Mrs Thatcher
It wan an interview with Women’s Own. This is the entire interview.

Always misquoted, deliberately so as to put it in context would destroy any argument.
was an interview!
I’ll stick up for her Will. When she came to power the combined efforts of both Labour and Conservative governments had left Britain’s economy in tatters. Of course turning the mess around was going to be painful. Sure she made mistakes but most of the bad stuff that happened on her watch was down to the actions of her predecessors. By the end of her tenure we were actually reducing our national debt, a situation that today’s shower could only dream of.
Until the heat death of the universe, probably…
